The Food Fox review: What Katie Ate at the Weekend

My friends at High Discount Stores recently asked me to take a look at the brand new book from superstar Katie Quinn Davies: What Katie Ate Over the Weekend. Katie is known all over the world for her popular Aussie blog / "foodie photography site" What Katie Ate, where she perfected the art of moody food photography a few years ago. She is a great all-rounder, doing recipe development, food writing, photography and styling all by herself - and darn good at it, might I add.

Katie's work is slurped up by her fans from every corner of the globe and this book is no different. What Katie Ate Over the Weekend is Katie's second book, and it is now available in store and online.

I chose 3 recipes, representing a "girls weekend away" with a recipe for a Friday night dinner, a Saturday lunch and a Sunday tea table. Katie's recipes are so very accessible, making this book a feast of inspiration for people who like to entertain over weekends. Her mouth-watering dishes are all beautifully styled and photographed, making it easy to see what the end product should look like.

This book is a must for the summer festive season and will surely become a favourite on your book shelf.

Take a look at the three recipes that we made and photographed at The Demo Kitchen in Stellenbosch with my good friend Tasha Seccombe as photographer:

Spaghetti with bacon capers & mint - what an interesting combo of flavours! We were bowled over with the deliciously bold flavours in this easy recipe. I'm totally going to make this again and again.

Grilled chicken with lime and herbs - such a fresh way of looking at chicken breast and what a great way of feeding a crowd. You can also serve these on burger buns with lots of extra mayo, or slice them up and use in a salad.

Victoria sponge with limoncello and balsamic strawberries - such a simple, elegant and showstopping cake. We made limoncello from scratch the other day, and I couldn't wait to use it in this recipe. Adding balsamic vinegar to the strawberries creates some very intense flavours, perfect with the dream mascarpone filling. Don't over-beat the mascarpone - it can easily seize up! Add a little more cream to loosen it up.
